In a huge win for Texas small businesses, veterans, farmers, and consumers, Governor Greg Abbott has officially vetoed Senate Bill 3 (SB 3), a controversial piece of legislation that would have banned nearly all hemp-derived THC products across the state and wiped out 53,000 jobs.
What Was SB 3?
SB 3, as passed by the Texas Legislature, sought to outlaw consumable hemp products containing any amount of THC, including federally legal cannabinoids like Delta-8, Delta-9, and THCA. It was pushed under the narrative of an aggressive propaganda campaign revolved around āpublic safety,ā but many saw it as a sweeping overreach fill with lies that threatened thousands of jobs and shuttered an entire industry overnight.
The vague language in the bill left too much room for interpretation, and the data cited by its authors was repeatedly called into question. Had it gone into effect, it would have destroyed a billion-dollar hemp market and stripped millions of Texans of access to the wellness products they use every day.
A Grassroots Win
Governor Abbottās veto is a major blow to the billās supporters and a massive victory for those who stood up for truth, real stories from Texans, science, and economic freedom. The decision came after a surge of public pushback, with thousands of Texans making calls, sending emails, showing up at the Capitol, and telling their stories.
From veterans and parents to small business owners and patients, people across Texas made it clear: they want access to safe, regulated hemp products, not control and prohibition.
Why It Matters
This veto preserves access to legal hemp products and protects the small businesses that are the backbone of the Texas hemp industry. It signals that policymaking in Texas still listens to reason, and that fear-based lobbying wonāt always win.
Texas now remains one of the few states where consumers can access a full spectrum of federally legal hemp-derived cannabinoids.
A Message of Gratitude
This outcome didnāt happen by accident. It was earned, by everyday Texans who took time out of their lives to fight for whatās right.
From Elevated Hemp Co., we want to personally thank everyone who played a part in this. The owners, Alex and Stephen, traveled to the Capitol to testify in front of the House of Representatives, appeared on news platforms, and shared their story and opinions based on fact, not just for their business, but for the millions of Texans who depend on hemp.
To all the farmers, veterans, hemp companies, patients, advocates, and customers who testified, sent letters to the Governor, or simply stood up and spoke out, thank you. This is your win, too.
